Retention starts when the student finds their timetable

Retention is discussed as if it were a wellness program. In practice, many withdrawals start earlier: the student cannot find the timetable, does not know how they are doing on the map, and has no one to ask without standing in line. The grade dispute arrives when the criterion can no longer be explained.

If the instructor and the student do not see the same term on the same day, the institution operates with two truths. One is in the internal system. The other is in a WhatsApp group. Late intervention is not a lack of interest: it is a shared datum that did not arrive in time.

The term in the pocket

Timetable, attendance, and progress have to live where the student already looks at the phone — and where the instructor closes the class. An assistant that answers with the record, not a guess, shortens the line. Analytics flags risk while a section can still intervene.

Retention is not a speech at the close of the term. It is the student knowing, today, which class they have, how they are doing, and whom to ask. The rest of the persistence strategy is built on that. Without that floor, you intervene when withdrawal is already underway.
